One aspect of this heartfelt drama that struct me was the non-linear story telling of Shia Labeouf’s script. By choosing two ages (times in Shia’s life) to focus on and study, the audience is able to filter their childhood, their trials, their failures or successes through the sad scenes of a child-star living out of motel or a young adult battling the rehab.
